On what subject(s) are you an authority

” there is always something to learn”( Lou)

My high school diploma was with the specialization as dietician.

During the years, my interests, with also, some of my skills, became different, bringing me towards other type of studies.

I don’t like to work as dietician, but I like study and speak of science of nutrition, keeping me updated.

I’m not exactly an authority but is a subject I know well.😀

 

Healthy habits 🍃

What are your daily habits?

Mallow infusion is another of my habits of the night.

My habits, when my mind is empty of thoughts, are healthy: food and lifestyle are two important factors to live well.

My meal is rich of raw vegetables and like habit, every day, I and Fiore, eat salad, carrots, Tropea onions, from Italy, sweet and good, avocado  that we alternate, preparing a different dish, always rich in nutrients.

Lifestyle is based on tranquillity and in the morning get up not very early, then in the evening a walking or a bicycle ride give me power, then the day ends, and with Fiore, a glass of red wine is a relaxing idea.😀

Apple fritters 😋

What’s the most delicious thing you’ve ever eaten?

In my childhood, when it was holiday, often at home my dad made apple fritters…very good😋.

I also make it, when I want something of simple and tasty dessert.

Recipe: wheat flour + eggs+ salt,  to obtain a soft batter, in which to turn the apple slices, before to put them in the pan, ( one time it was used to fry with oil, of peanuts is perfect, now exist too, the air fryer, but I mean, to experiment with anti-adherent pan is better, however, to try😉)

How do you practice self-care?

If I do something wrong for myself, I instantly have a mood change, feeling me inappropriate: this is a bad situation for the good health of physique and mind. The good situation is follow own intuitions,staying well.

So, I prefer, every day, make a bit of fitness,with also energetic exercises ,and, if with Fiore, is better😄 and then, I practic  self-care, eating healthy food and doing only what I want…maintaining my immune defenses high.

What’s the one luxury you can’t live without?

Travelling around the South Western Europe more than one time, I noted the increase in prices of fruit and vegetables, that, for me and Fiore are the main foods.

Usually we go to supermarket to go shopping, to be free to choose what we want to buy. Prices in Portugal are a little higher than in Spain, where, instead, it’s also possible buy well in small shops or directly from the grower.

France is more expensive of all and Italy is almost the same… It should be self- produced😉.

Nowadays eating fruit and veg is a luxury, that I can’t give up.

List your top 5 favorite fruits.

All fruits are good for our health cause they help us to raise our immune system with their nutrients, as vitamins.

I prefer fruits with a low sugar content and avocado, for this reason, is that I prefer.

My top five are:

Cherries are rich in potassium.

Apple give a good quantities of vit.C

Avocados has vitamins group B, PP, K, C

Coconut is rich in fibre, vit.C, magnesium and proteins

Oranges is special for its vit.C.

And with their initials I have “cocoa”, another special fruit😋

Teaching science of nutrittion😀

What job would you do for free?

Artichokes, vegetables of this season, good to clean liver.

When I finished high school , I made an internship to elementary school in Milan. It was a beautiful and interesting experience.

Children were very curious on this topic; they asked many questions, I prepared drawings of the human body, using “Mafalda” comics and I spoke of science of nutrition with a wonderfull audience.

I think,the knowing of science of nutrition, should be like to learn writing, reading, knowing of history and geography, and learning of music ( universal language). It’s fundamental to maintain in good health own body and mind.

Everybody should know it and I would still teach free, this topic, of which I have always great interest.Olitime, isn’t only mine and Fiore portfolio, but the demonstration of a life stile in which, there is also, the interest in science of nutrition.

Medlars,the first fruits of the season

In these days, walking in the Santiago de Caçem wood, we found the first fruits of the season, medlars, very good!

Freshly harvested are rich of all their nutrients, mineral, vitamin A and flavonoids.

These medlars are the japanese quality, the most diffuse here, like in Italy.

Together with medlars we collected bay leaves, which we’ll dry and wild fennel, because we want to eat with pasta in Sicilian style😋.

H2O, the best!…red wine too🍷

What is your favorite drink?

Water

Without water there isn’t life. These two molecules of hydrogen related to one of oxygen create the best drink.

Water is a solvent, helps our digestion, give us minerals and salts. Is an important part of our body… It also has a memory that in energy works is used to make healthy treatments: chromoterapy loading the water of colors, Bach flowers,

I like to drink water in many way, surely at room temperature or a little warm, making infusions of ginger or mallow , especially at night, after dinner. In these days, beet juice with lemon, diluted in water is my favourite drink.

Don’t take me as a too healthy…I am more! In fact I also like to drink a good glass of wine, better red that is an optimum anti-inflammatory and  antioxidant for its tannins and quercetin.

Speaking of which… Wine contain about from 75% to 90% of water!

Ibiscus/karkadé🌺

Hibiscus Sabdariffa is the name of the flower that, when is dried up, becomes karkadé. It belongs to the Malvacee family and is originary from Abissinia, for this, it is also known as “tea of Abissinia”.

Karkadé is an excellent drink, rich in vitamin C, ideal for drinking during summer.

This drink isn’t just thirst-quenching, but it’s a real panacea! Beyond vitamin C, contain Iron, vitamin B6 and B 12, magnesium, calcium and  vitamin D, with beta carotenoid the picture is completed in a really healthy drink.

When we need a natural anti-inflammatory, to fight a cold to maintain a good cerebral health and keep immunitary defenses up, karkadé is good hot, in water infusion for about 8 minutes or is possible put it in a bottle of cold water waiting to see it become of an intense color red.

I like very much this flower, in fact at my parents home in Milan we had always on our balcony; the best are red or yellow with brilliant colors😀.

In Portugal, Algarve has very large plants of Ibiscus… This plants needs hot and light to grow well! I think is not the same specie to make karkadé but it’s healthy even just looking at it, elements of nature are miraculous.🌺
